Kimora Lee is one of the women who’ve managed to make a name for themselves in the fashion industry. She worked as a supermodel for years before getting into actual business but did you know she started working as a model at just 14? Kimora’s blend of Japanese and African American blood gives her a unique appearance that seems to have worked for her in the industry. That and her 5 ft 10 height made her stand out.
She started off great working exclusively with Chanel and managed to grace many runways and magazine covers. In 1998 when she married hip-hop mogul Russel Simmons, she joined the fashion design industry expanding her husband’s already existing fashion line Phat Farm which led to the birth of Baby Phat. She became the creative genius behind it, providing an urban chic approach in the creation of clothing and accessories. While Phat Farm was mainly to cater to men, Baby Phat was more for women and children. She’s also the president and creative director of JustFab, in which she has poured her wealth of experience in fashion to make high-quality and high-fashion pieces more affordable. Through JustFab her goal is to make different women feel more attractive and confident because everyone can be fashionable.
Just a single look at Kimora and you can tell she has a flair for the high-end pieces and this is something that has given her a name in the jewellery, shoes and cosmetic industry. Being a woman of many talents, she has also done some acting, appearing on television and in films such as Beauty Shop, Brown Sugar and Waist Deep. She’s also graced a couple of videos of celebrities such as Usher. Owing to her extensive experience in fashion, both as a model, and a creative director she was part of the judges of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 1. She’s hosted different shows and has also allowed fans into her world through her own reality show Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane that premiered on the Style Network some time back. Through this show, she also gave fans a preview into her life as a mother and how she finds a balance between this and her CEO roles.
Since she loves all things fashion, surely Kimora had to be an author too, writing a book around this subject. She wrote “Fabulosity: What It Is and How to Get It” to serve as a guide to people or as a lifestyle manual on how to tie fashion and beauty with both finances and spirituality. A great outfit should go with a good scent and Kimora created her own fragrances to match with her taste in clothing and shoes.
When she’s not being a boss, Kimora or a mother of five, she is a philanthropist. Owing to her great success, she feels a great responsibility to give back to the community. She has the drive to change other people’s lives and to help them move forward, often acknowledging that even she was given an opportunity to prove herself by her community. Kimora Lee is truly an example of a modern woman using her talents and passion to the fullest, setting an example for the younger generation and making a difference.
